About the breed

Overview

The Morgan is one of the oldest American breeds. Typical features include a compact strong body, short powerful back, muscular hindquarters and a high-set neck. Petsi lists a height of 145–157 cm and a weight of 450–550 kg.

History

The breed traces back to the stallion Figure, owned by Justin Morgan in the late eighteenth century. His descendants consistently inherited strength, endurance and versatility and became the foundation of the breed.

Today Morgans are used for riding, driving, dressage, jumping, shows, tourism and therapeutic programmes.
