The breed has developed in Central Asia over thousands of years and is closely tied to Mongolia’s nomadic culture. Mongolian horses played an important role in the history of the Mongol Empire.
Features
These horses can live in herds year-round, tolerate severe cold and find forage on natural pasture. They are used for riding, transport and national racing.
Temperament and behavior
Temperament
Mongolian horses are independent, cautious and resilient. Their herd-based background means individual intensive work should be introduced calmly.
Care and keeping
Care
The breed is adapted to a modest diet, so overfeeding should be avoided. Domestic management still requires good forage, water, hoof and dental checks and adequate turnout.
