About the breed
The Oregon Rex is a rare historical American breed with a curly coat, affectionate nature and strong people orientation.
Breed history
The breed arose as a spontaneous mutation in Oregon in 1955. Later its lines mixed with Cornish Rex and Devon Rex cats, and the pure form is considered extinct.
Appearance and features
Oregon Rex cats were small to medium cats with slim legs, a fine tail, wedge-shaped face and short soft wavy coat. Size: medium size. Weight: males: 4.5–6 kg, females: 3–5 kg. Coat: short-haired curly coat. Typical colours: any colours and coat patterns.
Temperament
These cats were described as affectionate, sociable and family-attached. They enjoyed play and attention but could show stubbornness and dominance.
Care and lifestyle
Like other short-haired cats with unusual coats, they needed weekly brushing, skin checks, ear and tooth care and a careful home routine.
Health
There is little data on hereditary disease, but historical descriptions consider the breed robust. Today it is important to remember that the pure line is practically unavailable.
