About the breed

The Nebelung is a rare long-haired relative of the Russian Blue, known for its silvery blue coat, grace, intelligence and restrained family devotion.

Breed history

The breed developed in the USA through Cora Cobb’s work with long-haired blue cats. Siegfried and Brunhilde founded the line, and TICA recognition began in 1987.

Appearance and features

The Nebelung has an elongated graceful body, strong legs, an intelligent look and a soft semi-long coat with a misty silver sheen. Size: medium size. Weight: males: 5–6 kg, females: 3.5–5 kg. Coat: long-haired. Typical colours: blue to grey.

Temperament

Nebelungs are kind and affectionate with family but reserved with strangers. They are intelligent, sensitive to tone, playful and fond of high observation spots.

Care and lifestyle

Regular gentle brushing at least weekly is the main task for the long coat. Tooth care, ear checks, careful bathing and a calm home environment are also needed.

Health

The Nebelung is usually healthy without a strong genetic predisposition, but it handles rough treatment and lack of attention poorly, so gentle routine and preventive checks matter.
