About the breed

The Minskin is a rare experimental breed with short legs and a nearly hairless body, created as an affectionate and unusual home companion.

Breed history

The Minskin was started by Paul McSorley in Boston using Sphynx and Munchkin cats, later adding Devon Rex and Burmese. The first kitten was born in 2000.

Appearance and features

The Minskin is small and short-legged, with large ears, big eyes, a wedge-shaped face, skin folds and very short or nearly absent hair. Size: small size. Weight: males: 1.5–2.8 kg, females: 1.2–1.8 kg. Coat: hairless or very short coat. Typical colours: tabby, white markings, tortie and other variants.

Temperament

It is an affectionate, kind and people-oriented cat. It tries to stay near its owner, does well with children and dislikes long periods alone.

Care and lifestyle

Brushing is almost unnecessary, but skin folds should be wiped regularly, mild shampoo chosen, ears, eyes and teeth checked and the cat protected from cold.

Health

The breed is rare and experimental, so a responsible breeder, skin, weight and joint monitoring and regular veterinary checks are especially important.
