About the breed
The Manx is a strong, intelligent tailless breed from the Isle of Man, known for hunting instincts and loyalty to family.
Breed history
Early records of tailless cats on the Isle of Man date to the 18th century. The isolated island population helped the tail mutation spread quickly.
Appearance and features
The Manx is strong, rounded and muscular, with powerful somewhat short legs, medium ears and a tail that may be absent or partly developed. Size: medium to large size. Weight: males: 4–5.5 kg, females: 3–4.5 kg. Coat: short-haired or semi-long-haired. Typical colours: many colours and patterns.
Temperament
The Manx is lively, brave and quick-witted. It loves family, can learn leash walking, hunts well and may show watchful behaviour in a house.
Care and lifestyle
Brush once or twice a week, more during shedding. Games, weight control, ear, eye and tooth care and a safe activity space are important.
Health
Because of taillessness, spine, bowel and urinary issues may occur, so kittens should come from responsible breeders.
