About the breed
The Burmilla is an affectionate, friendly and intelligent cat with a soft silvery look, a balanced temperament and a strong attachment to family.
Breed history
The breed appeared in England in 1981 after an accidental mating between a Burmese cat and a chinchilla-coloured Persian; its name combines Burmese and chinchilla.
Appearance and features
The Burmilla has a sturdy body, rounded face, neat ears, expressive eyes and a short soft coat in shaded or chinchilla colouring. Size: medium size. Weight: males: 4–6 kg, females: 3.5–5 kg. Coat: short-haired. Typical colours: shaded and chinchilla colours.
Temperament
Burmillas are gentle, social and well-mannered. They enjoy attention, get along with children, guests and other pets, but do not like long periods of loneliness.
Care and lifestyle
Weekly brushing is usually enough and bathing is needed only occasionally. Teeth, claws, ears and eyes should be checked, and the cat needs calm daily interaction.
Health
Because of its Persian ancestry, the breed can have a predisposition to polycystic kidney disease, so routine veterinary checks are important.
